Canva is often seen as the golden child of Australian tech.

But now, a new name is making headlines — not just for its product, but for growing even faster than Canva itself.

Meet Heidi Health — an AI startup that’s quietly become the fastest-growing company in Blackbird Ventures’ $7B portfolio, overtaking both Canva and Leonardo AI.

Let’s break down what makes this story remarkable — and what early-stage founders (especially those building in AI) can take away from Heidi’s journey.

From unknown to #1: Heidi Health’s record-breaking rise

Founded in Australia just 6 years ago, Heidi Health only began selling its core AI product a year ago.

Yet today, the company is pulling in $15 million in annual recurring revenue (ARR) — that’s around 23 million AUD.

To put that in perspective:

  • That’s faster ARR growth than Canva achieved in its early days

  • It even surpassed Leonardo.ai, the generative image AI startup that Canva later acquired

  • And it did all that with a focused B2B product in the complex world of healthcare

Blackbird Ventures, one of the most prominent VCs in Australia, called it:

“Heidi Health is the fastest-growing startup in their portfolio.”

That’s a bold statement when their portfolio includes unicorns like Canva, Culture Amp, and SafetyCulture.

So how did they do it?
